Cove City - Marvin Edward Bass, 86, died Monday, March 24, 2008, at Craven Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, at Jones Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel with the Reverend Burnice Rouse officiating. Burial will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.
Marvin was born in Wilson County and was the son of the late Edwin and Polly Davis Bass. He worked there as a farmer before moving to Onslow County in 1956 and then went to work in the moving and storage business and retired as a foreman. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Avis Littleton Bass; a daughter, Joyce Grossman; and a son, Larry Bass.
Survivors include his five sons, Jerry Bass and his partner Lee Brock of Jacksonville, Glenn Bass and his wife Deborah of Richlands, Gary Bass and his wife Susan of Maysville, Leon Bass and his wife Kelly of Jacksonville, and Mark Bass and his wife Paula of Richlands; two daughters Sue Potter and her husband Jimmy of Cove City, and Sherry Orians and her husband Frank of Chesapeake, Virginia; one daughter-in-law, Judith Bass of Richlands; a son-in-law, Edward Grossman of Jacksonville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Doris Mitchell of Smithfield; 21 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Flowers are welcomed or memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation at 5950 Fairview Road, Suite 708, Charlotte, North Carolina 28210.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and at other times at the family's home, 800 Onslow Pines Road, Jacksonville.
