Mary Elizabeth Zimmerman (Picture included)
1927-2016
DEERFIELD - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Zimmerman, 89, of Deerfield, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at her home.
Mary was born in Utica on January 25, 1927, the daughter of Linus and Frances (Cheesman) Bassett, and received her education in Utica Schools. On January 27, 1944, Mary married John T. Zimmerman, Sr., a loving and devoted union of 71 years until John's death in 2015. At one time, Mary was employed with General Electric Company, Mele Manufacturing and Nichols Department Store. She attended St. Peter's Church in N. Utica and was a member of the Gold Star Mothers. Mary enjoyed going to OTB and Vernon Downs and, in her younger years, enjoyed rollerskating.
Mrs. Zimmerman is survived by her five children, John (Jack) T. Zimmerman, Jr., of Deerfield, Gary and Sharon Zimmerman, of Gulfport, FL, Linus Zimmerman, of Deerfield, Janet Zimmerman, of Utica, and Susan Zimmerman, of Nashua, NH; a daughter-in-law, Renee Zimmerman, of FL; as well as 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Donald F. Zimmerman, and three brothers, Bill Bassett, Linus Bassett and Donald Bassett.
Mrs. Zimmerman's funeral will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. at the Heintz Funeral Home, 408 Herkimer Rd., N. Utica. Her spring burial will be in Holland Patent Cemetery. Calling hours for family and friends are Friday from 2:00-4:00, prior to the service.
