Virginia Bass, 71, of Greentop, Missouri, passed away of heart failure on Friday morning (March 8, 1991) at the Kirksville Osteopathic Medical Center. Mrs. Bass was born September 25, 1919 in Greentop, Missouri the daughter of Eaver and Glada Eastin Pierson. On April 20, 1946, in Nashua, Iowa she married Melvin Bass who survives. Also surviving are one son, Terry Bass of Greentop, Missouri; one daughter, Tammy Karlsson of Des Moines, Iowa; two grandchildren, Renee Ray of Greentop, Missouri and Robert Karlsson of Des Moines, Iowa and four great-grandchildren of Greentop, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Burr L. Pierson. Mrs. Bass was raised in Greentop where she attended school. As a young girl she moved to Des Moines, Iowa. She owned and operated Virginia's Beauty Shop in Des Moines and had operated beauty shops in Des Moines and Ankeny, Iowa for over 40 years until she retired and moved to Greentop in 1973. Funeral service will be held 2:00 Monday afternoon (March 11, 1991) at the Davis-Playle Funeral Home with the Reverend Monte Peterson officiating. Music selections will be "How Great Thou Art" and "One Day At a Time" by Julia Mollick, organist. Interment will be in the Greentop Cemetery, Greentop, Missouri. Pallbearers will be Bill Ertel, John Robinson, Bruce Mollick, Mike May, Charles Allen and William Lawrence. Visitation is now in progress with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 9:00 Sunday evening at the Davis-Playle Funeral Home, 202 East Washington.
