      Charles Bass Found Dead
Brother of the Notorious Outlaw and Train Robber
      Special Dispatch to the Globe-Democrat

DALLAS, TEX., December 8.-Today Charles Bass was found death in the kitche at the home of Walter S. Stone, on Romine street. His bosom was bared and it was sprinkled with small red spots where the morphine syringe had been introduced. Dr. Smoot announced that death had been produced my morphine poison. Bass was about 35 years old, was unmarried and had been a resident of Dallas for about five years. He was a brother of Sam Bass, the train robber and outlaw. A number of sporting men in Dallas knew Charles Bass when he ran a high-toned café and restaurant in Kansas City, and was one of the best dressers in the town. He held high-salaried positions with railroads and was always good for a first-class job. Two days ago Bass dropped in at C.L. Jones? place, and in the course of the conversation Mr. Jones told him he would put him into a certain institution and get him straightened up so that he would live twenty years. Bass? retort was ?I?ll live longer that you will, Claude; good-day.?

Verdict of Justice Edward, Who Inquested the Remains

Charles Bass, 36 years old, was found dead in bed in his room, on Loomis avenue yesterday morning about daybreak. On his bared breast were several small clots blood which had oozed from wounds made apparently by a needle. Justice W. M. Edward, who held an inquest over the remains, returned a verdict to the effect that death was due to morphine self-administered.
The deceased had lived in Dallas for years. He was born in Indiana. Many know him well and said that he had quite a history. It is alleged that he was a brother of the famous Sam Bass, the outlaw, but that so far as known he had no relatives in this state.
The body was turned over to Undertaker Ed C. Smith.
