  Notes	The Daily News, Tarrytown, New York, Wednesday, November 11, 1964 Obituary Mrs. William Bassett Sr. Rye Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Kirby Bassett, 79, of 122 Grace Church St., mother of William J. Bassett Jr., assistant editorial director of the Westchester Rockland Newspapers died last night at home. She was the widow of William Judson Bassett, a former Rye building contractor who died in 1944. Mrs. Bassett retired in 1955 after more than 30 years of teaching in the Rye elementary school system and four years in the Harrison system. Also surviving are a daughter, Miss Margaret W. Bassett with whom she resided, a brother, Martin Kirby of Rye; three sisters, Mrs. Katherine T. Taylor of Rye, Mrs. Anna Grune of Mamaroneck and Mrs. Elizabeth Scollon of New Rochelle; and four grandchildren. A second son, Sgt. John Edward Bassett, died Dec. 24, 1944, when his troop ship was torpedoed in the English Channel.
