  Notes	Greenfield Republican, Indiana, Thursday, 17 October 1918 Last Of Prominent Family Mrs. Mary L. Bass, and Old Resident, Called to Reward (Shelby Democrat) Mrs. Mary L. Bass, nee Kennedy, the last of the older Bass family of Shelby county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna McLane, on West Hendricks street, at 3:45 this morning, from dropsy and heart trouble. She had been ill for the past two or three years, but had only been confined to her bed during the past four months. She was seventy-nine years of age and had passed practically all her life in this county. Born in Bedford, Ind., March8, 1839, she lived there for eight years, when she moved with her parents to this county, residing in Marion township. Her marriage to Hiram Bass occurred April 1, 1860, and fourteen children were born to the union, nine of whom survived the mother. Mr. Bass passed away in 1882, after which she resided on the farm, six and a half miles north of this city. The six sons and three daughters who survived are Henry H. bass, of Marion township; Herschel Bass, of Kansas; Marshall Bass, Hanover township, Ara C. Bass, of Hartsville; John E. Bass, of VanBuren township, Arthur Bass, of Morristown; Mrs. John Rhoades and Mrs. George Nave, of Marion township, and Mrs. Anna McLane, of this city. She also leaves one sisters, Mrs. Ruth Gant, of Waldron. There are twenty-six grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Mrs. Bass? death removed one of the most esteemed and splendid women of the community. Her life had been devoted to her family and to her friends. Being one of the oldest residents of the county, she had always been respected for her associations with the early history of the county. She united with the old Hanover church in Hanover township sixty years ago and later transferred her membership to the First Christan Church here.
