Leonard Hodges Bass Sr.

Leonard Hodges Bass passed away Monday, April 26, 2021 at home. He was born June 21, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama to Francis F. and Nell Hodges Bass. He grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Woodlawn High School. He went on to attend and graduate from API (Auburn), where he was a member of the Auburn University Band and the Alumni Marching Band. He was married to Mary Louise Gambrell for 49 years. He worked for ALCOA, Shook & Fletcher Mechanical, Alabama Air Wholesalers, The Stegall Company, and the Hardy Corp. He was a registered professional engineer in Alabama and many other states. He was a member of South Roebuck Baptist Church for 60 years and was a deacon there. More recently he was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Randale E. Bass, M.D., and grandson, Jeffery P. Bass. He is survived by his sons, Leonard Bass, Jr. and Steven F. Bass; grandson, David M. Bass; and close friend, Betty Wilson. A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at Elmwood Chapel Funeral Home at 12:30 pm. A graveside service will follow at 2 pm at Forest Hill Cemetery.
