Milton E. Stellrecht
Milton E. Stellrecht, 87, a life-long pioneer resident of the town of Rusk,
died on Thursday, July 19, 2007, at Spooner Health System.
He was born on March 2, 1920, in Muscatine, Iowa, to Christian and Loui
(Fugger) Stellrecht. He attended the Green Grove School.
He married Rachelle Durand on October 11, 1941, in Pine City, Minn. Milton
enjoyed a successful career as a dairy farmer in the town of Rusk, where he
served as the town chairman for many years. He also served on the Burne
County Board for 30 years holding the positions of chairman and supervisor.
Milton was president of and served on the Wisconsin Soil and Water
Conservation Committee for numerous years. He also had a pickle station in
Spooner in the late 1940's and early 1950's, worked as a logger for many
years, and was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing.
Milton is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rachelle; children, Marie Bassett
of Spooner, Dale (Lois) Stellrecht of Spooner, and Evelyn Taylor of Map
Gorve, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Kevin Bassett, Karie (Don) Taylor, Kent (Kim)
Bassett, Kristy Bassett, Jo Anne (David) Irvine, Jodi Stellrecht, Jill (Bert)
Groenheim, Dale Stellrecht Jr., Joseph (Renee) Taylor, and James Taylor, 11
great-grandchildren, Jenna, Emmie, and Jack Bassett, Michael, Jessica, Jordan,
and Zachary Irving, Tyler and Adam Groenheim, and Joshua and Ashley Taylor;
and many nephews and nieces.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Roy, Robert,
Ervin, and Percy; three sisters, Pearl Walker, Hilda Malmquist, and Adeline
Jorgenson; and sons-in-law, Chet Bassett and Roger Taylor.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 23, at Spooner Wesleyan
Church.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Taylor & Nelson Funeral Home-
Scalzo Chapel in Spooner and also at the church on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Interment was at Greendale Cemetery in the town of Rusk.
Casket bearers were William Bassett, Dwaine Bently, Richard Meronk, Ronald
Lewis, Thad Osborn, and Max Malmquist. Honorary casket bearers were Kev
Bassett, Joe Taylor, Jim Taylor, Kent Bassett, Dale Stellrecht Jr., and
Michael Irvine.
