James B. Bassett
1942 - 2007
WEST SPRINGFIELD - James "Jim" Bruce Bassett, 64, passed away Saturday April
21, 2007 in a local hospital after a long illness. He is survived by his
longtime and loving mate of 20 years Carla Metzler. Born in Springfield to the
late Robinson and Irene (Harrington) Bassett, he was raised by the late Philip
and Marion Senecal in Belchertown. He lived all his life in the Springfield
area, where he took a strong interest in carpentry at age 9 and later became a
Master Carpenter. Jim was a master craftsman in finished carpentry, and
especially gifted in historical home restoration. He was self-employed most of
his life, until working and retiring from Wilbraham-Monson Academy. Aft
meeting Carla, James came to love music, dancing, riding his Honda motorcycle,
and traveling especially to a beach. Besides his mate Carla, James is survived
by his two sons Joseph and Jason; two daughters Cheryl and Pamela; his brother
Billy; and two sisters Joan and Patty. He was predeceased by three sisters
Rosemary, Nancy, and Kathy. He also leaves his beloved cousins, nieces and
nephews of the Belchertown area. Jim will also be greatly missed by his many
friends of Bill W. There are no calling hours, and services and burial are
private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
