George A. (Butch) Bassett (1939-2017)
UTICA - Mr. George (Butch) A. Bassett, 77, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017, with his loving family by his side.
George was born in Utica, on November 12, 1939, the son of Albert and Martha (Alexander) Bassett and received his education in local schools. On September 24, 1966, George married Jeanne Cieslak at Holy Trinity Church in Utica. For many years he was employed with Utica Cutlery Company retiring in 1995. Butch was a member of the St. Michael Lancers and attended Holy Trinity Church in Utica. He was a former member of the P.L.A.V. Silver Dollar Club, Deerfield and P.L.A.V. Fish and game clubs and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Mr. Bassett is survived by his beloved wife, Jeanne; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Darlene and Jim Tracy, of Ilion, Elaine and Henry Rhoades, of Utica and Michele Bassett, of Utica; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Hillary Bassett, of Yorkville; one sister, Sherrie Boehlert, of Whitesboro; one brother, Thomas Shelby, of Whitesboro; as well as twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a granddaughter, Dakota Rhoades; his parents, Albert and Martha; step-father, William Shelby; brother-in-law, Jack Boehlert; and sisters-in-law, Nadine Shelby and Kathy Testa.
Mr. Bassett's funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at 12:00 noon, at the Heintz Funeral Home, 1517 Whitesboro St., Utica. His burial will be in Litchfield Cemetery, Litchfield, NY. Calling hours for family and friends are Monday from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
