      COLERAIN, N.C. ? Matthew Bass, 79, of Route 1, died Monday in Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. He was a native of Bertie County and the husband of the late Mrs. Beulah Bass.
      He was a member of Wynns Grove Baptist Church.
      Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Brown, Mrs. Pauline Cale, Miss Esther Bass, and Miss Annie Bass; and four sons, Willie Bass, Herman Bass, Junior Lee Bass, and James Wiggins, all of Colerain; a sister, Mrs. Henrietta Bowens of Miami; and 20 grandchildren.
      A funeral will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in Wynns Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. J.R. Wiggins. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with Reynolds Funeral Home in charge.
