Ivy Dee Matthews Bassett
HENDERSON Memorial services for Ivy Dee Matthews Bassett, 97, of Henderson, will be Tuesday, November 10, 2015, 11 a.m., at Crawford-A. Crim Funeral Home with Pastor Don Edmiston officiating.
The family will receive friends in the foyer after the service on Tuesday.
MeMa, as she was lovingly known, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, November 7, 2015.
Mrs. Bassett was born May 19, 1918 in Tatum, Texas to Gus and Delia Matthews. She was the last sibling of the family of nine and had resided in Henderson for the last 80 years. She was a longtime, faithful member of First Baptist Church for 80 years and a member of the Claudia Holder Sunday School Class. She taught training union and was a charter member of the Keenage choir. Her church was so important in her life. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a gracious lady who loved her church, her family, and her friends. She will be missed by all, and so many will miss her wonderful bread. Her ministry to others was delivering bread to shut-ins and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you for the years of care she received from her caregivers: Judy Washington, Tracie Jones, and Nevelyn Jones. They provided the best care possible in a loving and caring way which gave the family much comfort.
Her husband, Salah Bassett preceded her in death in 1981. Her brothers and sisters, Tolbert Matthews, Oliver Matthews, Ray Matthews, Ben Matthews, Doyle Matthews, A.P. Matthews, Ludie Gibson, and Ellie Mae Kuykendall also preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Linda Bassett of Itasca; a daughter and son-in-law, Delores and Mike Toon of Lake Cherokee; grandchildren, Allan Bassett of Itasca, Brian and Tara Bassett of Itasca, Stephen and Lauren Bassett of Phflugerville, Chad and Kristi Boudreaux of Yorktown, Va., and Trent Toon of Cedar Park, Texas; great-grandchildren, Chase, Zack, Madison, Makenna, Gage, Travis, and Elliott Bassett, Stella Toon, Blake, Lauren, Henry, and Hudson Boudreaux; and five great-great-grandchildren.
