Joan Bassett

Joan Bassett, 70, Kokomo, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at Kindred Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born June 3, 1941, the daughter of Oliver Wendell Myers and Jennie Dilts in Kokomo. She was united in holy matrimony to Arthur Bassett on July 5, 1958. She was employed as an assembler at Delco Electronics, retiring in 1991 after 30 years of service. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age. She was a 1961 graduate of Kokomo High School and a member of the UAW Local 292, a Girl Scouts leader, Eagles Lodge 255, and an avid bowler at Don Lowry Lanes and Cedar Crest bowling alleys. She had a love for her family, grandchildren and great-grandchild and supported them in all of their endeavors. She loved spending time with her great-grandchild, watching her favorite cartoons. She is survived by her mother, Jennie Myers; husband, Arthur W. Bassett; daughter, Mary Suzanne (Rev. Jeffery) Sirmons; son, Brian Arthur Bassett; sisters, Sharon (Odell "Mac") McIntire, Martha "Mart" (Harold "Rick") McGraw, Lake City, Mich., Roberta "Bert" (Duane "Dee") Duetch, Evansville, and Pamela (Robert "Bob") Lytle; brothers, Oliver W. "Sonny" (Pauline) Myers Jr., Sharpsville, and Charles (Irene) Myers; brother-in-law, Kenneth (LeCretia) Bassett; sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Johnny) Gillam; grandchildren, Brittany Burton, Brooke Burton, Brandon Bassett, Samuel Sirmons, David Sirmons and Maggie Sirmons; great-grandchild, Riley Thieke; and a host of nieces and nephews.. She was preceded in death by her grandma and grandpa; father; sister, Carolyn Bitner; one niece; and one great-nephew. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Pastor Robert Lee will be the officiant and the Rev. Jeffery Sirmons will be the eulogist. Friends may call beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
