David Fulton Bassett (picture included)
WILLIAMSBURG - LTC David Fulton Bassett (Ret.), 66, of Williamsburg, di
April 21, 2008, from complications with Cancer. He is survived by his wife of
38 years, Mary Lee Bassett of Williamsburg, Va.; his brother, Richard Haley
Bassett of Fairfax, Va.; his sister, Sallie Garland Walker of Chatham, N.J.;
and his two sons, William Naumann Bassett of Charlottesville, Va., and Matthew
Fulton Bassett of Midlothian, Va.; along with his expected grandson.
David, son of Henry Naumann Bassett and Sarah Fulton Bassett, spent the
majority of his childhood in Washington, D.C., and later moved to Chatham,
N.J. He graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in Physics a
later received his Masters of Engineering Administration from George
Washington University. David was a 30-year veteran of the U.S. Army and Army
Reserve, where he served overseas and received numerous awards including the
National Defense Service Medal. He ended his career as the Science Advisor to
the Commanding General at Fort Lewis, Wash. Since moving to the Williamsburg
area, he devoted his time to volunteering at the William & Mary library and
the APVA, Jamestown Settlement. He was an active member of the James Ci
Lions Club, Sons of the American Revolution and the Yorkminster Presbyterian
Church in York County. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monda
April 28, at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, Va. An interment service
will be held at 3 p.m. July 8, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington,
Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of his favorite
charities, The Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, 706 Haddonfie
Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002, 1-800-537-7667 ext. 101, or via website
