Betty Jo Anderson and Robert S. Bassett
Wed in Ceremony At Congregational Church
Betty Jo Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Anderson, jr. of Musey Park was married today to Robert Stevens Bassett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thaddeus B. Bassett, also of Munsey Park. The wedding was performed at 5:30 at the Congregational Church by the Rev. George G. Parker.
The bride wore a white lace gown with fingertip veil and heart-shaped coronet and carried a white flowers. Her sister, Mrs. J.T. Downey, jr., who was matron of honor, wore aqua jersey. Bridesmaids were Carol Basset and Marilyn Johnson who wore pink jersey. All carried nosegay bouquets.
James T. Downey, jr. was best man and ushers were Robert Simmons and Albert Beeke.
A dinner for the bridal party followed at the Town Club in Great Neck.
The groom graduated from Manhasset High School, and the bride from Stephens College. The groom is resuming his studies at Lehigh after serving for almost 3 years, mostly in the ETO, as a Staff Sergeant in the Armed Forces. They will make their home in Bethlehem, Pa.

Robert S. Bassett (1924-2016)
BASSETT, ROBERT S., 91, died Wednesday, October 26, 2016 while residing at Willow Valley Retirement Community in Willow Street, PA. He was born December 10, 1924, a son of the late Thaddeus and Margaret (Sample) Bassett, residents of Roslyn, Long Island, NY before their move to Manhasset, NY. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Betty Jo Anderson, on June 20, 1946.
Jo helped him complete his college education at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. There he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and a co-captain of the lacrosse team. He returned to Lehigh after serving with C. Company, 17th Armored Infantry Battalion in Europe during WWII. After earning his B.S. in Civil Engineering, Bob was employed by Cities Service Oil Company, where he eventually became Vice-President of the company's ocean-going American and Foreign Flag Tanker Companies located in New York City, with the family living in Westfield, NJ.In 1975, with the sale of those ships, the family moved to Valley Forge, PA, where Bob started work with Interocean Management Corporation in Philadelphia, PA. That company managed and operated various types of ocean going vessels owned by private and public corporations and the Federal Government. He became an owner and president of the company, retiring in 1989. Bob and Jo especially enjoyed forty-four summers, holding family reunions and having visits from friends at Hutter's Camp, their special place on Otsego Lake, Cooperstown, NY.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Jo; their five children, Mary Jo Nerl (whose husband died) of Buda, TX, R. Stevens Bassett (Linda) of Cabool, MO, James Newman Bassett of Austin, AK, Stacey Anne Alvarado (Armando) of Austin, TX, and Margaret Carol Goodyear (Kent) of Chino Valley, AZ; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, November 12, 2016, 1:00 P.M., at the Spring Run Auditorium of Willow Valley Retirement Community, Willow Street, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 897, Hershey, PA 17033; Hospice of Lancaster, 685 Good Dr, Lancaster, PA 17601; or a charity of your choice.
