Della E. Bassett, 88, of Sturgis, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2016 at Sturgis Hospital. She was born Jan. 13, 1928, in Altamont, N.Y., to James and LaRita (Allen) Davidson. She worked at many different occupations over the years and retired from LaGrange Homebound Health Care Services. Mrs. Bassett also had worked for Mayer's Gift Shop, Sturgis Tool and Die, the Sears store in Sturgis and in restaurants. Mrs. Bassett was a member of EUB in Middlebury, Ind., and St. John's Episcopal Church in Sturgis. She was a life member of DAV Auxiliary of Elkhart, Ind., American Legion Auxiliary of LaGrange and VFW Auxiliary of Kendallville, Ind. Della had a great love for all the cats she had during her lifetime. On April 20, 1947, she married Walter J. Kinsey Sr. In May 1976, she married Clarence M. Bassett in Middlebury, Ind. He preceded her in death April 1, 1992. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Walter Jr. and Jean Kinsey of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Rob and Liz Kinsey of Sturgis; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Ann Anteau of Sturgis. Preceding her in death were her parents, James and LaRita Davidson; a daughter, Diana Kinsey; a son, Alan Kinsey; her first husband, Walter J. Kinsey; a brother, James Robert Davidson Jr.; and her twin brother, Eldon Davidson. A memorial service is being planned for January and will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association. Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange is assisting the family with the arrangements.
