      Emporia native Roy C. Bassett of Mapleton, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007, at the
      Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg. He was 85. The son of Roy
      C. Sr., and Lucille Humphreys Bassett, he was born April 2, 1921, at Emporia.
      He graduated from Emporia High School and attended Kansas State Teachers
      College in Emporia.

      He owned and operated Bassett and Sons Auto Parts in Emporia during the 1960s.
      During World War II, he volunteered as a civilian worker for the Air Force and
      the Signal Corps. He was trained in radio and technology at Philadelphia and
      Baltimore. After the war, he worked as an electronics technician for Ed
      Marling's in Topeka. He married Helen Troutman on June 29, 1945. She died in
      1975. He married Geraldine Speck on June 19, 1976. She died in 1987. He
      married Louise Post on Feb. 10, 1990, at Mapleton. She survives.

      He had been a member of the Mapleton Christian Church since 1990. He was a
      lifetime member of Orient Masonic Lodge 51 in Topeka. He was past president of
      Ed Marling's Credit Union and past president of the Kaw Valley Amateur Radio
      Club.

      Mr. Bassett is also survived by two stepsons, two stepdaughters, four
      step-grandchildren, and two step-great grandchildren. A sister, Mary Ann
      Crocker, and two stepsons died earlier. The funeral will be at 2 p.m.,
      Thursday in the Mapleton Christian Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope
      Cemetery at Topeka. The family will meet friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the
      Cheney Witt Chapel. There will be a Masonic service at 6:45 p.m.

      Roy C. Bassett, age 85, a resident of Mapleton, Kansas, died Monday, January
      8, 2007, at the Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg, Kansas. He
      was born April 2, 1921, in Emporia, Kansas, the son of Roy C. Bassett, Sr.,
      and Lucille Humphreys Bassett. He graduated from Emporia High School and
      attended Emporia College. He volunteered as a civilian worker for the A

      Marling's Credit Union. He enjoyed amateur ham radio and was past president of
      the Kaw Valley Amateur Radio Club. He also enjoyed amateur photography. While
      in Topeka, he was a member of the West Side Baptist Church, and was a former
      chairman of the board there. He has been a member of the Mapleton Christian
      Church since 1990. Roy is survived by his wife, Louise; two step sons, Greg
      Post and wife Sandy who served as one of Roy's caregivers, Mapleton, and Gary
      D. Lloyd and wife Bernadine, Topeka; two step daughters, Sherry Post, Garnett,
      and Deborah Post Potter, also one of Roy's caregivers, and husband William,
      Pittsburg, Kansas; three nieces, Carolyn Crocker, Kathryn Crocker Zavilla, and
      Susan Crocker Codding, all of Colorado; four step grandchildren, Alicia Potter
      Burk of Pittsburg, who served as a caregiver, Gregory Dwayne Post, Kans
      City, Brent Lloyd and Brenna Lloyd Rooney, both of Topeka; and two step great-
      grandchildren, Matt Lloyd and Dalton Rooney. He was preceded in death by his
      parents, a sister, Mary Ann Crocker, and two step sons, Richard and Lawrence
      Lloyd. Funeral services for Roy Bassett will be held at 2 p.m., Thursda
      January 11, 2007, at the Mapleton Christian Church, officiated by Matth
      Hamilton. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kansas. The
      family will receive friends for visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening
      at the Cheny Witt Chapel. There will be a Masonic service at 6:45 p.m.
