NEW BEDFORD – Barbara Allen Bassett, 79, a native of Cuttyhunk who
also lived in Sandwich, Fairhaven, and in recent years at Sunbridge Care and
Rehabilitation Center, died Sunday, Nov. 21, 1999 after an extended illness.
Born on Cuttyhunk in Gosnold, she was the daughter of the late John
and Florence (Tilton) MacKay.
She received her early education at the one-room schoolhouse on
Cuttyhunk and graduated from Dighton High School.
Over the years, she was an active member of Center Methodist Church in
Fairhaven and Cuttyhunk Methodist Church.
A family-oriented person, she loved gardening and was an accomplished
artist who created many beautiful scenes of her beloved islan
She was a descendant of Richard Warren of the Mayflowe
Survivors include her son, David Allen Bassett of Moultonboro, N.H.,
two daughters, Nancy E. Mach of Fairhaven, and Francis Bailey of Acushnet; a
brother, Donald MacKay of Florida; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren;
and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Hazel Thompson.
Her funeral will be at 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Edward Wilson Chapel
479 County St. Burial will be on Saturday no Cuttyhunk.
