Elizabeth Bassett
VALLEY FALLS – Elizabeth (Betts) Bassett, 93, a lifelong resident of Valley
Falls, died peacefully, Friday, March 7, 2008 at the Southwestern Vermo
Medical Center Hospital following a short illness. Born in Troy, January 16,
1915, Mrs. Bassett was the daughter of the late Nelson Benjamin Betts a
Esther Dorothea Cook Betts and the wife of the late Bryan S. Bassett. Mrs.
Bassett was a graduate of the former Valley Falls High School and the
Rochester Institute of Technology where she earned a degree in business
management. For many years, she was the co-owner and operator of the former
Bassett and Son Pontiac/GMC auto dealership in Valley Falls. In 1988, s
retired to care for her home and enjoy her hobbies of playing bridge wi
friends and the needlecrafts of sewing and knitting. Mrs. Bassett was a member
of the Valley Falls United Methodist Church, a 4-H leader for many years and
enjoyed camping with her late husband at Hedges Lake. She is survived by a son
and daughter-in-law, Robert and Sharon Bassett of Valley Falls and a daughter
and son-in-law, Lois and John Marbot of Johnsonville; a sister-in-law, Pearl
Betts of Argyle; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and sever
nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband; a son, the late
Paul Betts; a brother, N. Benjamin Betts; and a sister, E. Adelia Betts,
predeceased her. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 9, 2008 at
7:00 p.m. at the Valley Falls United Methodist Church with Rev. Eileen Deming
officiating. There will be no calling. Burial will be private at the convenience of the
family in Elmwood Cemetery in Schaghticoke. Memorial contributions if desired
may be made to the Valley Falls United Methodist Church, 22 State Stree
Valley Falls, NY 12185 in memory of Elizabeth Bassett.
