Double funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Kyner were
conducted Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock in the First Presbyterian Church
at Wilson, with the pastor, Rev. D.C. Wallace officiating. Burial was in the
Wilson Cemetery, with Stiles mortuary in charge.
Joseph L. Kyner graduated valedictorian in his class from the Wilson
Public Schools, and attended Antioch College at Yellow Springs, Ohio. He then
helped his father with the family grain business, and upon his father's death
in 1935 he assumed management of the firm, which he continued to expand and
operate until his death. In 1933 he was married to Jane J. Smit
He is survived by his three children: Joseph L. Kyner Jr., a senior at
the University of Kansas, David S. Kyner, a sophomore in high school, a
Christine E. Kyner, an eighth grader; his mother, Mrs. Boyd W. Kyner of Wilson;
his two brothers; Francis Kyner of Tokyo, Japan, and Porter Kyner of Wilson;
and many other relatives.
Mr. Kyner was an active member of the Masonic Lodge, Order of t
Eastern Star, Wilson City Band, Lions Club, Presbyterian Mariners Club, and an
elder in the Presbyterian Church, supplying the pulpit at different times when
the Church was without a pastor.
Employees of the Kyner Elevator, Emil Mattas, Aaron Grederick, Henry
Mattas, Emil Hoch, Junior Zahradnik, and Ernest Pekarek acted as casket-
bearers for Mr. Kyner.
