Gertrude Bassett Peck (1915-2010)
Gertrude Bassett Peck left her earthly body on January 15, 2010 to be with our
Lord Jesus Christ in her heavenly body. Gertrude was born in Shelburne, Mass
on March 8, 1915 to William and Clarissa Bassett. She lived with her parents
until she met Carl Peck at a dance at the Shelburne church. They were married
on September 13, 1935. They moved to Springfield, Mass where they lived most
of their married life. They raised two children together, Geraldeane Lambert
of Stamford, CT and Gregory Peck of Lake Clear NY. Gertrude was a homemaker
who loved to sew, hook and braid rugs, work in her flower garden and gr
vegetables. She also grew raspberries from which she made the most wonderful
pies and jellies. She also loved to square dance. After her children left home
she went to work at Miss Kirby's as a seamstress. In 2007 she moved to
Stamford to live her final years in the loving care of her daughter. She has
11 great grandchildren whom she adored. She loved helping her daughter, Geri,
care for her youngest daughter's twin sons. She is survived by her daughter and
her son and his wife Suzanne, her four grandchildren, Patricia Dattilo and her
husband Vinny, Jennifer Ballone, Katherine Lambert and Jill Jones and h
husband Donald, her 11 great grandchildren, Nicholas and Kyle Ballone, Luke,
Mikaela, Noah and Jenna Dattilo, Daykwon, Jayden, and the twins Kaleb a
Isaiah and Connor Jones. She also leaves her sister Dorothy Gilbert and
sister-in-law Mary Bassett. Services for Gertrude are private. Friends and
family are welcome to join her family in celebration of her life at her
daughter's home at 59 Courtland Ave, # 2Y, Stamford, CT from 7pm to 9pm on
Tuesday, January 19, 2010. Graveside services will be held on January 20, 2010
at Hillcrest Cemetery in Springfield, Mass at 12PM. In lieu of flowers the
family asks that a donation be made to the Arthritis Foundation. The
arrangements have been entrusted to the Leo P. Gallagher & Son
Funeral Home.
