- OBITUARY
Mrs. Martha Clayton, 19, wife of Frank Clayton, of near Smithland, and
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bassett, of Shelbyville, died at 2 a.m. Monday
at the Coleman Hospital in Indianapolis. Death was caused by general
peritonitis following childbirth.
Mrs. Clayton was taken to the hospital Tuesday evening, and a son,
born Wednesday evening died shortly after birth.
Born in Shelbyville, May 7, 1919, Mrs. Clayton attended the Addison
Township schools and the Junior High School in this city. She was married to
Frank Clayton of Shelby County, Oct. 4, 1937.
Among the survivors are her husband, her mother and father, eig
sisters, Mrs. W.R. Tucker, of Park Rapids, Minn., Mrs. Nellie Pike, Mrs.
Joseph Lanwerlen, of Shelbyville, and Lucy, Patty, Betty, Marilyn and Mary
Marie at home, two brothers Robert and Jackie Carol at home. The grandparents,
Elmer Baker, of Union township, and Mrs. Mattie Bassett, of Madison, al
survive.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2:00 o'clock at the Calvary
Baptist church with the Rev. Clarence Hager, pastor, officiating. Burial in
the Bennett Cemetery will be in charge of Loren H. Murphy, funeral director.
The body has been taken to the home at Smithland where friends may
call there this afternoon.
