The Wheeler County native lived in Hazelhurst for 45 years and was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He was a retired auto mechanic and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mattie S. Bass of Hazlehurst, two daughters, Connie Visage of Americus and Jo Ann Bridges of Hazelhurst, two sons Herman and Ronnie Bass, both of Hazlehurst; five sisters, Rachel Cravey of Cochran, Tasker Dixon of McRae, Jewell Thompson of Jesup, Maudie Mitchell of Alamo and Annette Towns of Eastman; three brothers, Jessie L. Bass of Jacksonville, Fla., Sammy Bass of Hazelhurst and Max Bass of Atlanta; and 11 grandchildren. Funeral 3 p.m. Wednesday at Southside Baptist Church, burial in Palms Memorial Garden. Wainright and Parlor Funeral Home.
