Bassett-Fulton
The wedding of Miss Sara Garland Fulton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lawrence Fulton, of Chevy Chase, to Mr. Henry Naumann Bassett, son of the Rev. and Mrs. Thaddeus Stevens Bassett of Rolke, Iowa, took place Saturday, June 8th, in the Central Presbyterian Church, Dr. James H. Taylor officiating, according to the Sunday Star of Washington, D.C. The bride?s picture was in that paper.
Miss Fulton is the daughter of Mary Alice Haley Fulton, who before her marriage was a resident of McComb, having spent her girlhood here. She is a graduate of McComb High School, McComb Female Institute, and the University of Mississippi, becoming a charter member of delta, Delta, Delta sorority at Ole Miss. She is a sister of Mrs. E.L. McLaurine and Mrs. Thomas Byron Rand of this city, and Mrs. W.A. Hewitt of Jackson; also of Joe P. Haley, of Vickery, Texas.
The setting for the wedding was unusually effective with lilies, orange blossoms, palms and ferns used on the altar, which was lighted by cathedral candles. A program of organ music was given before the ceremony. The bride was escorted and given in marriage by her father. She wore a becoming gown of white mousseline de sole made on simple lines with a short bodice and carried a formal bouquet of gardenias and lilies of the valley. Her only attendant was her young sister, Miss Mary Alice Fulton. The brother of the bridegroom, Mr. Thaddeus Brown Bassett, of Manhassett, Long Island, was best man. Ushers were Mr. Richard C. Ford, Baltimore, Mr. Howard Bales, Mr. Criag McKee, and Ensign Robert B. Fulton, all of Washington.
Mrs. Robert Burwell Fulton, grandmother of the bride2, assisted receiving at the reception after the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett then left for a wedding trip in New England, and after Juily 1, 2ill be at home at 5420 Connecticut Avenue.
The bride is a granddaughter of the late Dr. Robert Burwell Fulton, Chancellor of the university of Mississippi, and the great-granddaughter of Dr. Landon C. Garland, first chancellor of Vanderbilt University. In addition to her other schooling she attended Duke University. Mr. asset was graduated from Northwestern University in 1927, where he was a member of Thi Kappa Psi Fraternity.
