Viola W. Bass
PORTSMOUTH ? On July 21, 2005, in the early morning, God gently called our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to his waiting an loving arms.
Viola W. Bass, 94, of the 2300 block of Staunton Ave., retired from the Naval Regional Medical Center after 26 years. A native of Powersville, N.C., she was the widow of Glover C. Bass Sr., and a member of Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where she was involved with the Loyal Workers Club and Feed the Hungry.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Glover C. Bass Jr.. Survivors include three daughters, Dorothy C. Oliver, Ruth C. Johnson and Delores B. Oliver (Segaster), a son, Melvin E. Bass (Ida), 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Third Baptist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev. Joe B. Fleming. Burial will be in Roosevelt memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing will begin Tuesday at noon. The family will be at the residence to receive friends. The body will be placed in church Wednesday at 12:30 p.m.
