J. Dorsey Bassett
Sharptown - J. Dorsey Bassett, 66, of Sharptown and Washington, D.C., died Tuesday in Peninsula General Hospital after a long illness. He retired in 1951 from employment as a printer for the U.S. Government Printing Office.
Born in Salem, Maryland, he was a son of the late John W. and Emma May McKnett Bassett. Mr. Bassett belonged to Asbury Methodist Church here and to Lebanon Lodge No. 7, AF and AM, Albert Pike Consistory, the Eureka Naval Chapter, all in Washington, and the International Typographers Union.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Arcadia Russell Bassett; a sister, Mrs. Theodore Boston, Woolford, Maryland; and three brothers, Guy W. Bassett, Philadelphia; Robert Bassett, Baltimore; and Vincent Basset, Hurlock.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Asbury Methodist Church with the pastor, the Reverend R. Gordon Given, officiating. Interment will be in Fireman's Cemetery here.
Friends may call at the Newnam Funeral home here tonight from 7 to 9. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home Saturday at 1 p.m. by Lebanon Lodge No. 7.
