BASSETT Elton R., age 81, of Medfield, April 23, 2015, beloved husband of the late Leona M. (Sawyer) Bassett. Loving father of Stephen Bassett and his wife Janice of Norfolk, Stephanie Bassett and Scott Bassett and his wife Diane all of Medfield. Brother of Stella Bassett of Sanford, ME. Also survived by three grandchildren and one great granddaughter. At his request, services will be private. Elton Robert Bassett, age 81, died after a lingering illness on Thursday, April 23rd, 2015 at the Waban Health Center in Newton.
Born in Framingham to the late Harry and Emma (Neal) Bassett he attended the Framingham Public Schools with the class of 1951.
Formerly of Framingham, he married the love of his life Leona May (Sawyer) Bassett who predeceased him in 1997 and moved to Medfield the following year where they made their home and together raised their family.
Mr. Bassett worked for many years for the Medfield School Department as a custodian and retired as custodian of the Medfield Towne House in 1998.
A quiet man of many talents, he built his home on Green Street, was an active member of Medfield?s Civil Defense Department, a member of the Model Railroad Society, and enjoyed many trips to Wells, Maine. He was a big fan of John Wayne and had seen many times over every one of his movies.
He is survived by 3 children, Stephen E. Bassett and his wife Janice of Norfolk, Stephanie A. Bassett and Scott M. Bassett and his wife Diane all of Medfield, a sister Stella Bassett of Sanford, ME, 3 grandchildren, Clifford Bassett, Kelley Bassett and Joshua Bassett as well as 1 great granddaughter, Grace Bassett.
At Mr. Bassett?s request, his services will be private and for his family only. Burial will take place alongside of his wife of over 60 years at Vine Lake Cemetery, Medfield.
