New Manager Named For J.C. Penney Store
Paul J. Bass, manager of the J.C. Penney company store in Shreveport, La., was n Denver Wednesday preparing to take over the managership of the Denver store July 1.
He will succeed W.F. McKinley, manager of the Denver store of the nationwide chain since Jan. 1, 1917. McKinley will become manager of the Penney store and its branches in Portland, Ore.
Bass, who has been manager of the store in Shreveport the last sixteen years, first went to work for the J.C Penney company in 1927 in Albuquerque, N.M. He went from Albuquerque to Fort Worth and then to Shreveport.
He is president of the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce, a past president of the Shreveport Rotary club and a member of the boards of directors for the Boy Scouts, the Louisiana state fair board and the Shreveport city planning commission.
TOURS STORE
Both Bass and his wife, Fern, attended the University of Nebraska. His father, Judd Bass, for a time operated a ranch at Brush, Colo.
The Basses have three children, a daughter, Marian, 19, and two sons, Robert, 13, and Howard, 10.
McKinley, who was manager of the Tacoma, Wash., store before coming to Denver, also has a daughter and two sons.
Bass spent Wednesday morning touring the store, discussing management problems with McKinley and examining plans for the new building to be constructed on the site of the Mack building at Sixteenth and California streets.
Among the J.C Penney company employes in Denver whom Bass met was Mrs. Gertrude Maddox, who has recently been designated top salesperson among the 60,000 Penney employes for 1948.
