H. Eugene (Gene) Bass
Gene Bass, 87, was born on May 15, 1938. He passed away on April 28, 2026.
He grew up on a farm in Lake Monroe, Florida, where he developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. Those early experiences shaped the values he carried throughout his life- hard work, perseverance and a love for his family.
Along with his two brothers, Gene was a partner in the local foodservice company Bass & Swaggerty. The family business served the Central Florida community for over 50 years. In the late 1990's, the company sold to Sara Lee Corporation, giving him the opportunity to live out his life doing all the things he loved most.
Gene was truly a man of many talents and passions. He was an accomplished sea captain and found great joy on the water. He also flew his own twin engine airplanes and had a lifelong love of aviation. He loved traveling the world, always seeking out new experiences and adventures. He travelled to Sturgis, South Dakota many times as he really enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson throughout the Black Hills. He also spent several days each week, every summer for almost 20 years fishing at Walkers Cay in the Bahamas.
Survivors include his wife Annette, who he truly loved. Also, his children David (Lisa), Steven (Erin) and his daughter Ashley. He was also very close to his two stepchildren Todd and Tracy Shirah. Others include his 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and that devoted dog, Max.
Per Gene's request, there will be no service. The family gathered privately for a Celebration of Life.
He will be truly missed by all.
