- Rachel May Burdick, 1895-1945
Rachel was born May 28, 1895, in Brookfield, Madison Co., NY, the youngest of four girls. Her father, Clayton, was a Seventh Day Baptist minister. The family later moved to Westerly, RI, where Clayton was a pastor for 26 years.
Rachel's mother, Harriet or Hattie Eloise Crandall, died in Westerly when Rachel was fourteen. She graduated from Alfred University in 1915 with a Bachelors of Philosophy. In 1918, she married Leon Bassett. She died of breast
cancer when she was forty nine, the same illness that caused the death of her mother and sisters.

Mrs. Leon Bassett
Mrs. Rachel Burdick Bassett, wife of Leon Bassett, died unexpectedly at her home in Alfred Monday evening.
She was a member of the Pawcatuk Seventh Day Baptist Church of Westerly, R.I., and the societies of the church at Alfred.
Surviving are her husband; one daughter, Mrs. Eloise Scholes of Alfred; two sisters, Miss Frances L. Burdick of Aztec, N.M., and Mrs. John C. Bergin of Bloomfield, N.M.; one niece, Miss Elaine Dilks of Sweedsboro, N.J.
A service will be held Thursday at the home at 1:30 and at 2 o?clock at the Church. Pastor Everett T> Harris and the Rev. George B. Shaw will conduct the services. Burial will be in the Alfred Rural Cemetery.
