- Mulvane - Leo Henry Bassett, 87, died Nov. 7, 2002, at Canon City, Col
He was born Nov. 10, 1914, at Wichita, the son of William and Huldah Bassett.
A resident of the Burrton area for 22 years, he worked with Bassett
Construction, Sand Inc., and L.B. Manufacturing. On Sept. 14, 1987, he
sustained a head injury on the job that caused him to end his caree
On Oct. 2, 1940, he married Mary Ellen Harrison at Salina. She died.
Survivors include: a daughter, Marilyn McCluskey, Pueblo, Colo.; and two
grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cecil, Otto and George Bassett.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Senter-Smith Mortuary, Mulvane. Visitation
will be from 9 a.m. until noon Monday at the mortuary. Burial will follow the
funeral in El Paso Cemetery, Derby.
Memorials may be sent to the Burrton Ambulance Department or the Brain Injury
Association of Kansas, both in care of the mortuary.

Leo Henry Bassett
Bassett, Leo Henry, 87, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2002 in Canon City, Colo.
Visitation 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; service 2 p.m. both Monday at Senter-Smith
Mortuary; burial following at El Paso Cemetery, Derby. He was born Nov. 10,
1914 in Wichita, the son of the late William and Huldah Bassett. A resident of
the Burrton area for 22 years, he was known in the Road Construction and Sand
and Gravel Business throughout the state of Kansas for many different self-
owned businesses, including Bassett Construction, Sand Inc. and L.B.
Manufacturing. On Sept. 14, 1987, he received a devastating head injury on the
job that caused him to end his career as a successful engineer, inventor and
builder. On Oct. 2, 1940 he married Mary Ellen Harrison in Salina. Born to
this engagement were two children, Marilyn and George Bassett. Preceded in
death by his wife, parents, brothers, Cecil, Otto and George Bassett; sister-
in-law, Ruth Bassett. Survivors: daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Jack
McCluskey of Pueblo, Colo.; grandchildren, Mark John McCluskey of Colorado
Springs, Jaclyn Amber McCluskey and fiance, Nathan Mutz of Pueblo, Colo.
