Dorothy Rose (Bass) Holt
Dorothy Rose (Bass) Holt relinquished her earthly life on Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at Meadow View in Baraboo. She was born Oct. 21, 1915, in Baraboo to Percy and Hazel (Dryer) Bass.
She attended Normal School in Reedsburg where she received her teaching certificate.
She married Kenneth Leroy Holt on Aug. 17, 1936 in Rockford, Ill. Together they farmed on Highway 12 between Lake Delton and Baraboo. Dorothy worked for many years at Reinking's clothing store in downtown Baraboo.
Dorothy was a member of Prairie Party-Liners Homemaker's Club for many years. She became the general leader of Webster's Prairie 4-H Club in 1950 and continued in this capacity for 28 years spending many hours watching her children and grandchildren participate in the Sauk County Fair.
She was a member of Evangelical United Brethren Church which later became Emanuel United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of Rebecca's Circle.
She is survived by her daughter, Kenlyn Kimpfbeck (Bob Melvin); son, Tom (Agnes) Holt; sister, Vera Pelton; brother-in-law, Oliver Holt; grandchildren, Jim Kimpfbeck, Terri Kimpfbeck (Chris) Mosher, Dennis (Sheila) Kimpfbeck, Travis (Ellen) Holt, Scott (Sheri-rae) Holt, Aaron (Jeana) Holt, Shana Holt (Tim) Johnson, Sheri Holt (Jeff) Hicken, Brandon (Mayra) Holt, Craig Luck, Corey (Tina) Luck, Hillary Lichman, Holly Van Wormer; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces; nephews; and their children.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her daughter, Janice Lynn Van Wormer; her husband, Ken; great-great-grandson, Elijah Lee Kimpfbeck; son-in-law, James Kimpfbeck, son-in-law, Bill Van Wormer; sister, Blanche Keller and her husband, John Keller; brother, Charles Bass and his wife, Irene Bass; and brother-in-law, Keith Pelton.
Dorothy loved and lived for her family and hosted countless birthday, graduation, confirmation and Christmas Eve parties at her home for her children and grandchildren.
She took up quilting in her 70s and sewed many full-sized quilts for family members as well as lap quilts for charity. Other pastimes included playing solitaire and listening to Christian music.
Dorothy was a very caring, friendly lady and she will be missed dearly by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010 at Emanuel United Methodist Church in Baraboo with Pastor Blake Overlien officiating.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010 from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave. in Baraboo; and on Monday, from 10 a.m. until the time of services, at the church. Burial will be in the Webster's Prairie Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Emanuel United Methodist Church.
