Mrs. Virginia Bassett
Mrs. Virginia Tooker, Bassett, 87, a lifelong resident of Sag Harbor, died yesterday after a long illness. Mrs. Bassett was born March 18, 1877, the daughter of Seymore and Sarah Tooker. She was the widow of Charles D. Bassett.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Douglas of Sarasota, Fla., and Paul Stuart of Buffalo, N.Y., and a daughter, Mrs. Morgia Dunham of Sagaponack. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Paul J. Bassett, Mrs. Morgia D. Hopping, Mrs. Virginia Larouere, and Richard C. Dunham and nine great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Bassett, who was educated in the Sag Harbor schools, was a past matron of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Old Whalers? Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Yardley and Williams Funeral Home, the Rev. C. Roger Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
The family has asked that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Suffolk Division, Sayville, in lieu of flowers.
