VERNON - Marjorie G. Bassett, 95, of Vernon died 10 p.m. Wednesday (March 6,
2002) in Fair Oaks Nursing Home, Greenville.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday in Day Funeral Home, Patoka, with the Re
Chuck Jackson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services. Burial
will be in Doolen Cemetery, Vernon. Memorial: donor's choice.
Mrs. Bassett was born Nov. 29, 1906, in Foster Township, Marion County, the
daughter of Oscar L. and Cora A. Campbell Doolen. She lived her entire life
in the Vernon area. She was a former member of Vernon United Methodist Church
and a current member of Patoka United Methodist Church. She was a former
member of Marion County Home Extension and was very active in her church in
Vernon and Patoka, serving on many committees in the church. She was a
homemaker. She married Mason "Peck" Bassett Dec. 7, 1926, in Patoka. He
preceded her in death Aug. 10, 1989.
Surviving are her son, Richard Bassett of Salem; daughter, Bonnie and husband
Frank Peyton-Pritchett of Illiopolis; sisters, Thelma Riley of Dennison,
Kansas; Wanza Gramlick of Memphis; daughter-in-law, Margaret Bassett of
Princeville; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-
grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Mason Lewis Bassett;
granddaughter, Allison Bassett, and three brothers.
