Kille Accidentally While Hunting
Capt. E.L. Bass, of Clayton, was accidentally shot while hunting at Troy, Vermont, last week. Capt. Bass, accompanied by his brother-in-law, Mr. Smith, had been enjoying the hunting, going out nearly every day. On Tuesday morning of last week, he started out as usualy about 9:30. After going a short distance from the house, he called th hound that always went with them. The dog shortly came bounding along, and having come up with Capt. Bass it began mumping against his side. In doing so the dog knocked the gun he was carrying out of his hand. The fall of the gun caused it to discharge, and the contents entered his right knew at the joint. He was carried to the house and medical aid summoned. Three doctors answered the summons and did everything in their power, but he unfortunate man never rallied sufficiently to permit amputation. He remained conscious, however, until he died, at 11:30 o?clock Wednesday. The remains were taken to Clayton for interment.
During the last forty years Capt. Bass has been engaged in the steamboat business, during the last two seasons running the ferry boat from Thousand Island Park to Grand View Park. He had reached the age of 61 years and 11 months, and leaves a wife and one daughter, Mrs. Illie Parslow, who resides in Nevada.
