Elsie Bass
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Elsie Phillips Bass, who left this world on September 22, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on January 2, 1945, to the late Mr. and Mrs. James Bennett Phillips. Elsie lived a life filled with love, dedication, and a passion for caring for others.
Elsie was a devoted wife to her husband, Jack Bass, with whom she shared nearly 59 years of marriage. Elsie was a proud mother to three children. She also reveled in her role as a grandmother, finding great joy in the laughter and love of her grandchildren. Family gatherings were her happiest moments, where she brought everyone together with warmth, love, and her renowned cooking.
Elsie's educational journey led her to Georgia Southern University, but she took a pause to be a wife and mother. She later graduated from Georgia Southwestern State University with a degree in nursing, a profession she dedicated herself to wholeheartedly. For 25 years, she served the community at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Americus Georgia gaining a certification as a medical-surgical nurse. Her compassion and dedication to her patients were evident in every aspect of her work, and she made a lasting impact on the lives of many.
In her passing, Elsie is preceded by her beloved granddaughter, Lydia Caroline Bass. She leaves behind her husband, Jack; her children Jack Bass Jr. Of Americus, Georgia, Joe Bass (Sheri) of Cobb, Georgia, and Jan Williams (Scott) of Augusta, Georgia. Her grandchildren, Cleve Bass (Morgan), Cassi Anander (Brandon), Sara Bass, Collins Bass, Carson Williams, and Ella Catherine Williams and Great granddaughter Childree Bass. She also leaves a brother Jimmy Phillips of Cordele, Georgia, brother in law Jimmy Bass of Warwick, Georgia, sister in law Catherine McCarthy(Jeff) of St. Mary's, Georgia, and sister in law Carolyn Mitchell(Tom) of Cleburne, Texas. Additionally, several nieces, nephews and cousins. She had a very special bond with her cousins Joy Carter and Suzanne Harper that was more like sisters. She leaves a legacy of kindness and nurturing that will forever resonate within her family and community.
A celebration of Elsie's life will be held on September 27, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church, with Graveside following at Warwick Methodist Church. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring her memory. Visitation will be September 26, 2025, from 6-8 pm at Hughes and Wright Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Antioch Baptist Church at 706 Antioch Road Cordele, Ga 31015.
