Charles Richard "Chuck" Bassett, son of Ernest and Golda (Bennett)
Bassett was born November 12, 1926 in Des Moines, Iowa. He passed from this
life on December 2, 2006 in Osceola, Iowa at the age of 80 year
Chuck spent most of his life in Clarke County. He graduated from
Woodburn High School. He served as a Sergeant in the Army Air Corps during
World War II. He was united in marriage to Norma Jean Huddleson on February
13, 1947 in Hiawatha, Kansas and 3 children blessed this union, Richard, Fonda
and Rodney.
Chuck worked for the railroad for 9 years which sparked his interest
in collecting trains. He later worked for Bill Meyers Ford Garage, Thay
Toney Trucking and Oliver Motors as parts manager until retirement in 1988. He
was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie #3495; Past
Commander of the Osceola VFW and member of the Herndon-Oehlert Post $157 of
the American Legion in Woodburn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Norma in 1996;
brothers-in-law, Bob Brodsack, Bill Huddleston, Bob Huddleson, nephew, Steve
Conley; and grandson, Eric Phillips.
He leaves to cherish his memory, son Dick Bassett and wife Carol of
Truro; son Rod Bassett and wife Karla of Osceola; daughter Fonda Isenberger of
Springfield, Missouri; 5 half sisters, Marge, Shirley, Francis, Liz and Rocky;
9 Grandchildren, Jodie & Pat Collins of Murray; Melissa Stump (Georg
Sylvania, GA; Troy Isenberger (Shannon) of Springfield, MO; Jason Isenberger
(Casie) of Bolivar, MO; James Isenberger (Jaimie) of Springfield, MO; Greg
Bassett (Amy) of Woodburn; Holly & Jason Parker of Osceola; Christoph
Sarah Bassett of Leon; Jerad Phillips of Iowa City; 16 great grandchildren; 1
great great grandchild.
