  Notes	Nelson Funeral Care ? Cloquet, Minnesota ? 26 February 2026 Carolyn Bassett Carolyn J. Bassett, age 99 of Cloquet, MN, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Evergreen Knoll in Cloquet. She was born February 2, 1927, in Baltimore, Maryland to Ralph and Elizabeth Mason. Carolyn met the love of her life Arnold Bassett in Maryland where they wed on September 26, 1947. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Cloquet where they raised their four children. For many many years, Arnold fulfilled a promise he made to Carolyn that he would take her to Maryland each year to see her family and friends as well as spend time at the ocean and eat the tasty fresh seafood she loved so much. In addition to spending time with her family and many friends, Carolyn enjoyed embroidering, playing cards and games, baking her famous Hershey's brownies, watching her beloved Twins and Vikings and trying her luck at the casino. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband Arnold of nearly 65 years and eldest son Harold "Harry". She is survived by her son Richard "Rick" (Kim) Bassett, daughters Brenda (Mike) Pollak, Lynn (Jeff) Gort, and special daughters-in-law Gayle Bassett and Barb Bassett; grandchildren Chris (Cindy) Bassett, Dan (Kim) Bassett, Nathan (Dawn) Pollak, Jennifer (Tony) Clement, Bryan (Natalie Hanson) Bassett, Meagan (Greg) Harrison (Pollak), Sam Gort and Ben Gort; 13 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Carolyn's life will be held on Wednesday, March 4th, 2026, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet. Visitation will be held from 10-11 AM with a memorial service at 11 AM followed by a luncheon. A private burial will follow. Carolyn's family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the very caring staff of Evergreen Knoll for the care and kindness shown to her for so many years. The family is also forever grateful for the amazing staff of St Croix Hospice for the care and love they gave to Carolyn over the past year but especially during her last few weeks and most importantly her final days.
