O.E. Bassett Dies at 72, Engineer
Ormon E. Bassett, 72, of 247 Evans St., North Weymouth, a retired structural engineer, died yesterday at a Reading nursing home.
Mr. Bassett had been associated with Stone & Webster of Boston, the Monsanto Chemical Co. of Everett, and retired from the Charles T. Main Inc., engineers, Boston last September.
Born in Taunton, he attended Taunton High School and was graduated from the University of Vermont in 1908. He was president of the New England Gourd Horticultural Society and had Masonic affiliations in New Jersey.
He was a direct descendant of William Bassett who settled in Plymouth in 1924.
He leaves his wife, Mrs. Jane Augusta (Spurr) Bassett; a son, Ormon Edwin of Winchester; two brothers, Alfred J. of Charleston, S.C., and Hebert M. of Yonkers, N.Y.; two sisters, Miss Inez Bassett and Miss Ava Bassett, both of Taunton, and three grandchildren.
Private funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 p.m. in the chapel of Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
