Mrs. Nellie Bassett Dead
Mrs. Nellie Lena Bassett, who lived at 524 Union, died Thursday
evening at 4:30 o’clock.
Mrs. Bassett was born July 21, 1873 in Terre Haute, Ind., the daughter
of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.D. McGrew. She came to Kansas, to Newton, in 1876
and to Emporia in 1909. She and William A. Bassett were married in Kans
City, Kan., February 28, 1891. Mr. Bassett died in March 194
She is survived by one son, Roy C. Bassett, 827 West; four daughters,
Mrs. Clara Worster, 318 Cottonwood; Mrs. Myrtle Hamilton, 911 Whildin; Mrs.
Helen Crumley, 915 Congress; and Mrs. Kathryn Williams 702 Union; one sister,
Mrs. Lucie Spraklon, of Ft. Smith, Ark., two granddaughters and four
grandsons. She was a member of the First Baptist church and the M. I. P. Club.
Funeral services for Mrs. Nellie Lena Bassett, who lived at 524 Union,
and who died Thursday, were held Saturday afternoon at the Roberts-Blue
chapel. The Rev. Orlie Wilbur, pastor of the First Baptist church, w
charge of the services. W.M. Stegman sang, accompanied by Mrs. Glenn A. Blue.
Pallbearers were Henry Fromm, Dr. T.W. Lind, Obert Cook, Albert
Nelson, W.H. Peabody, and V.A. Davis. Burial was in Memorial Lawn cemetery.
Out-of-town relatives who attended were Mrs. Lucy Spracklen, Ansel
Spracklen, Claude Spracklen, of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Mr. and Mrs. R.C.
Obrecht, of Topeka.
