Funeral Services for Ray E. Bassett, 87, of Grand Prairie and formerly
of Athens, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday in the First United Methodist
Church in Athens with the Rev. Earl H. Dawson officiating.
Burial will be in the Athens City Cemetery under the directi
Carroll-Lehr Funeral home in Athens.
Mr. Bassett died Tuesday in a Grand Prairie nursing home aft
extended illness.
He was born June 7, 1897 in Freemont, Mich., and had lived in Athens
22 years. He was a resident of Fort Worth 20 years where he was employed with
the Acme Brick and Tile Co. in Athens. As a member of the Veterans of World War
I, he served as past district commander and past quarter master for the Athens
Barracks. He was also a member of the American Legion, the American
Association of Retired Persons and the First United Methodist Churc
Survivors include one son, Jud Bassett of Grand Prairie; one daughter,
Margaret Ranell Weems of Birmingham, Ala.; five grandchildren; and two great-
grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Arbra Johnson, Wesley Bradshaw Jr., Harris Ballow,
Nile Cole, Frank Roup and Elmer Howard.
