Schaar, 83, Wittenberg, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.She was born July 27, 1928, in Wittenberg, the daughter of the late Melvin and Goldie (Bricco) Bessette. On Nov. 3, 1951, Joyce was united in marriage to Theodore W. Schaar at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Birnamwood. He preceded her in death April 12, 1982.Joyce waitressed for many years at local restaurants including the former Gus & Ann's, Coffee Cup, and Maple Hills Golf Course. Joyce was a member of Holy Family — St. William Catholic Church, Wittenberg. She enjoyed spending time with people, listening to Patsy Cline, watching "I Love Lucy" and game shows. She also enjoyed playing cards with family and spending time at the lake house. Joyce loved her family and her dog, Prada.Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Schaar, Wittenberg; and her grandson, Theodore C. Schaar, Milwaukee; two sisters, Sharon Hegewald, Birnamwood, and Lorraine Borchardt, Milwaukee; two brothers, Dale (Joyce) Bessette, Milwaukee, and Dennis (Joan) Bessette, Clintonville; many nieces, nephews and friends; and additional family connected through love, Kimmyra, Dylon and Lukas Lyons, and Melissa and Brian DeBaker.In addition to her husband and parents, Joyce was preceded in death by her brother, Harold "Pete" Bessette.The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Holy Family — St. William Catholic Church, Wittenberg. The Rev. Patrick Lloyd will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until the time of service Friday at the church. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery, Wittenberg. Schmidt & Schulta Funeral Home, Wittenberg, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
