Ruth O. Bassett, 93, Moscow resident since 1977
MOSCOW -- Ruth O. Bassett, a resident of Moscow since 1977, died Wednesday at Latah Care Center here of causes related to age. She was 93.
She was born Feb. 18, 1903, in Hopkins, Minn., to Elmer and Orilla Whipple Lane. She was raised and attended schools in the areas of Hopkins and Wayzata, Minn.
After graduating from high school, she sold chickens and eggs, worked in a bakery and was a substitute rural mail carrier and school bus driver.
She married Kenneth Bassett Aug. 31, 1923, and they made their home in Hopkins. He also worked as a mail carrier. She enjoyed being a homemaker.
After her husband's retirement in the early 1970s, they moved to Lavalle, Wis., where they lived for about five years. They moved to Moscow in 1977 to be closer to their daughter. Her husband died in 1983. Since 1984, she lived at Latah Care Center.
She was a member of Grace Baptist Church at Moscow, sang in its choir and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed the outdoors and gardening.
She is survived by her daughter, Miriam Bassett of Moscow. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Private graveside inurnment will be conducted later at the Groveland Cemetery in Wayzata, Minn. Short's Funeral Chapel of Moscow is in charge of arrangements.
