Bassett
Marion Richardson Bassett, 101, of Albuquerque and formerly of Grant County, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2022, at BeeHive Home of Four Hills in Albuquerque. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 11, at 11 in the morning at Mountain View Cemetery. Charles Sauder will officiate. Marion was born Feb. 3, 1921, in Santa Rita to Lawrence and Addie Richardson. She grew up in Hurley and attended Hurley Grade School, graduated from Hurley High School and attended New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. Marion married Charles C. "Buddy" Bassett on Feb. 21, 1941, and they made their home in Hurley. Together they raised their four children. She belonged to the Hurley Community Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid as well as of the Eastern Star and was an accomplished bridge player. After they retired, they traveled extensively and spent their winters in Mesa, Ariz. Marion is survived by her four children, Robert Bassett (Dolly) of Grants, James Bassett (Regina) of Grovetown, Ga., Carol Walters (Tedd) of Silver City and Janelda Thompson (Richard) of Faywood; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great- grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Addie Richardson; her husband, Charles C. "Buddy" Bassett; and two siblings, James Richardson and Gladys Holman.
