Obituary
Edwin Bassett, son of Peter and Ellen Wolcott Bassett, was born near Polo, January 13, 1972, and passed away at the Glendale, Cal. Research Hospital, Sunday, January 20, having reached the age of fifty-two years.
His early life was spent no the farm, and on June 29, 1898, he was married to Miss Hattie Holly, who with their two sons, Arthur H. and W. Leavette, survive him.
Immediately after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Bassett went to Brookville, Mississippi, remaining there for three years when they returned to Illinois and located in Rockford, where he was employed as stock-keeper in the North Shops.
In July of last years, Mr. and Mrs. Bassett, and son Arthur drove through to California in a car, hoping that the western climate would be beneficial to his health. For a time he seemed better, when he was taken ill very suddenly with an attack of acute Bright?s disease, passing away after just a week?s illness.
The body arrived in Polo Friday afternoon and funeral services were held from the Masonic Temple, under the auspices of the lodge, Mr. Bassett having been a member of the Rockford lodge, Sunday afternoon. Interment was made in the family lot in Fairmount cemetery.
The deceased was the youngest of a family of five children, all of whom have passed away with the exception of Adelbert, of Nebraska.
Mr. bassett was a tender and loving husband and father and his family was always his first consideration. He was Pas Secretary and President of the Spiritual Unity Church of Rockford where his pleasant friendliness and ready aid will be greatly missed. He was a man of sterling qualities and high ideals, numbering his friends by his acquaintances.
Mr. Bassett?s youngest son, Leavette, is serving with the U.S. Marine Corps and is stationed at Brooklyn, New York. He was not able to get a leave of absence and hence was unable to meet his mother and brother in Polo.
The Bassett family has the sympathy of a host friends in their great bereavement.

Former Local Man Dies in California
Edwin Bassett, formerly president of the Spiritual Unity church and a resident of Rockford, died at Glendale, Calif., according to word received by Mrs. M.B. Dermody, 737 Napoleon street.
The body will be take to Polo for funeral services and burial. The arrangements have not been made.
Mr. Bassett was a bookkeeper for the Rockford City Traction company prior to his departure for California last July hoping that a change of climate would benefit his health. Mr. Bassett is survived by his widow and two sons, Arthur Bassett, California, and Levitt Bassett, United States navy.
Mr. Bassett was born in Polo 53 years ago.
