      Robert Lee Bass

      Robert Lee Bass (LCDR), 78, departed this world to join his Heavenly Father on July 13, 2013.
      A private burial will be at Llano Cemetery followed by a memorial service at First Presbyterian Church on July 16, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
      Bob was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Elgie and Ruth Bass in July 1935 . He graduated from Muskogee High School, and attended the University of Oklahoma. An opportunity to join the Navy was presented and his adventure began. During his 22 year career in the military, he and his family lived in many locations along the East coast, New Mexico and Puerto Rico. His career included serving as a P-3 pilot for anti-submarine and rescue surveillance, serving as the Nuclear Weapons officer on the USS Intrepid aircraft carrier, and many other important roles. During his last tour in Puerto Rico, Bob completed his Bachelor of Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude, from Inter-American University of Puerto Rico.
      During his first tour in Hawaii, Bob met Allee Curtis of Amarillo. After a 4 month courtship, they were married on November 25, 1961. They were blessed with 52 wonderful years together. Their first child, Stephen L. Bass was born in New Iberia, Louisiana in 1963. In 1965, Allison L. Bass was born in Amarillo, Texas.
      Bob moved his family to Amarillo to begin another phase of life upon retiring from the Navy in June 1977. Bob began a new career with First National Bank working in several of the bank departments with many respected colleagues and spent 14 years as a Commercial Loan Officer. Bob was dedicated to the bank, his customers and to Amarillo.
      In 1991, he went to work for the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce, and in 1994 he led the Business and Retention program. In 1996 he moved to the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation as Vice President and Projects Manager. He was with the AEDC until he retired in October 2003. A major project for Bob while at the AEDC was his involvement in bringing the Bell Helicopter Assembly Plant to Amarillo. He continued after retirement to work as a consultant with AEDC until 2010.
      His community activities were important to him and include United Way of Amarillo Citizens Budget Committee and Board of Directors, YMCA Board of Directors, Amarillo International Airport Board of Directors Chairman, Potter/Randal County Appraisal District Board of Directors-President, Presbyterian Home for Children Board of Directors-President, Amarillo Business & Professional Men's Club-President, The Rotary Club of Amarillo, and Harrington Regional Medical Center Board of Directors.
      Bob was an invaluable member of First Presbyterian Church and served as a Deacon and Elder for many years. He was chairman of the Finance Committee for 7 years and served as personnel chairman and led a special project for church expansion.
      Survivors include his wife Allee Bass; son Dr. Stephen L. Bass and wife Terri and their sons Barrett & Breuer; daughter Allison L. Silvertooth and husband Dennis and their daughters Shelby & Lyndee. A brother Gene Bass and wife Betty of McAlister, OK. Brother-in-law Steve Curtis and his wife Jerre, Brother-in-law Don Curtis, Sister-in-law Lynn Besselman and her husband Jim. Nieces and nephews include: Margaret McDermid, Chancy West, Teel Curtis, Curt Besselman, Shannon O'Brien, Sara Robinson, Lee Besselman, Riley Curtis, Jim Bass and Janice Bracken.
      Bob was a gentle and loving husband, father and friend. He was dedicated to God, his church, his family, his friends and his country. He gave so much and received so much!
      The family suggests memorials be to First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Harrison St., Amarillo, TX 79101; or Presbyterian Children's, 3400 S. Bowie, Amarillo, TX 79109.
