Alma Ruth Jernigan
She was the daughter of Turley and Dora Kilpatrick Jernigan. She grew up and attended schools there in that area. She married E.L. Bass on July 31, 1930, in Checotah. She lived most of her life in Muskogee, where she and her husband owned and operated the Bass Furniture Store. She was a longtime member of the New Life Center in Muskogee. She moved to McAlester on Dec. 13, 1997, to be close to her son. She passed away at a local nursing center in McAlester at the age of 95. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Gene and Betty Bass, of McAlester, and Bob and Allee Bass, Amarillo, Texas; four grandchildren and spouses, Jim and Helen Bass, of Oklahoma City, Mike and Jan Bracken, of Stigler, Dr. Steve and Terri Bass, Coppell, Texas, and Dennis and Allison Silvertooth, Amarillo, Texas. Also, three step grandchildren and spouses, Jeff Belote, of McAlester, James and Susan Belote, of Edmond, and Greg Belote, of Oklahoma City; 16 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Turley and Dora Jernigan; her husband, E.L. Bass on Aug. 23, 1998; her grandson, Jay Evan "Pete" Bass on Oct. 1, 2008; four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Muskogee with the Rev. Douglas Jernigan officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Muskogee. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Bishop Funeral Service of McAlester.
