      Margaret Dawes was a younger sister (6 years) of James M. Dawes and an older
      sister of Hettie Dawes (less than 2 years). She was born 15 May 1841 in
      Cutler, Washington County, Maine, and went to Wisconsin with her family when
      she was 5 years old. Her father died when she was about 12 years old. In 1863,
      she was 22 years old, 11 years younger than Wentworth. After the Civil War,
      she married Captain Charles H Bassett (mentioned elsewhere) and they lived for
      four years on the Pierz Bassett farm in Strongs Prairie, Town of Monroe town
      line. They moved to Nebraska where they owned a farm about 10 miles from
      Geneva. When her husband died in 1898, Margaret sold the farm and moved to
      Geneva. They had one adopted daughter; she married a rich member of the Thorp
      family, who was a gambler who followed the race tracks, and she died young
      after a very unhappy life. When Margaret grew older her brother Pratt (RN1306)
      went to live with her for a short time. She then sold her home in Genev
      Nebraska, and they both moved to Chili, Wisconsin, to live with their widow
