Insolvent Debtors’ Court

The following insolvents passed their first examinations with out opposition, and had the 14th of October named for their final orders: William Bassett, late of the Rainbow and Dove, Christmas-Steps, licensed victualler; debts, £142 9s 9d credits £24 7s 7d.

William Bassett, late of the Rainbow and Dove, now of the Sugar-Loaf, Christmas Steps, Licensed Victualler. The insolvent (supported by Mr. Edlin, instructed by Mr. Sherrard) was opposed by Mr. Crosby, who asked the court to make an order of the delivery of possession of the Sugar-Loaf to Mr. Wm. Russell, the trade assignee. After hearing an examination of the insolvent and the remarks of the advocates, his Honour said he was of opinion that the opposition had totally failed, and that as the insolvent had no beneficial interest in the premises in question at the time of filing his petition, the court had no power to make such an order as that applied for.
