Eileen Bassett Farney
Eileen Bassett Farney, age 89, a resident of Colorado Springs since 1997 and
formerly of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Liberty
Heights. She was a retired educator in the Dallas School Systems from the mid-
1950's to 1981. She taught fourth and fifth grades at Burnett Elementary
School in Dallas. Eileen was born on February 18, 1916 in Silver City, New
Mexico to Harry and Bertha (Sass) Bassett. She attended college at Western New
Mexico University and married the late LTC Raymond C. Farney, USAF (Ret.) on
May 16, 1938 in Silver City. Her husband died in 1990. She is survived by her
loving son, Jerry (wife, Teresa) Farney of Colorado Springs; two
grandchildren: Scarlett Farney of Colorado Springs and Greg Farney of Denver,
Colorado; and a great-granddaughter, Samantha. She was preceded in death by a
sister, Gertrude Clarkson. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday,
February 18, 2006 at Liberty Heights. Cremation is planned and she will be
buried at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Memorials may be
made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, 1445 North Union Boulevard
Suite B100, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
